OASIS Thin Client
( 1 Article )
OASIS Admin/Finance and Library have been in operation in schools since the late 1980s. OASIS version 2 was installed in all schools during 1994 and OASIS Y2K was installed in 1999. The Learning Management Business Reforms (LMBR) program will deliver a total replacement for the OASIS school administration system over the next few years. In the meantime, Information Technology Directorate has been evaluating options capable of sustaining the existing OASIS service to schools until it is replaced through the LMBR program. With existing OASIS servers in schools now over seven years old, there is a need to ensure the operation of OASIS can continue. One option was to replace the existing OASIS servers with new ones, another option is to completely centralise the OASIS system and provide access to each school via internet browsers and the DET Portal.
With more DET systems being focused around the DET Portal, it is logical to also include OASIS in that structure. It should be understood that these OASIS Continuity solutions are not an OASIS replacement. None of the solutions ITD is investigating will dramatically change the look and feel of OASIS. During Term 4, 2006, ITD will run a Thin Client pilot involving twenty (or more) schools in each region to confirm that the proof of concept will work effectively. This will be followed by a careful review of the user experience.
