The Internet is an amazing educational resource that is becoming more and more ubiquitous. Our students are using it on a daily basis both to assist their learning as well as for their own social networking. In many cases, the technology is beyond the understanding of parents. While they realise the Internet is a useful asset for their children's education, many parents do not understand the dangers associated with providing their children with unsupervised access to the Internet. In recent times, there have been many high-profile cases of Internet abuse and governments are starting to understand the need to advise and educate parents about Internet Safety. The Sydney Region of the NSW Department of Education & Training presented specific Internet Safety Parent Seminars in October and November to provide advice to parents of students in NSW Public Schools. Participation was free of charge and the content was suitable for both parents and students (parental guidance is advised). All details for the Parent Seminars can be found in the invitation available here (Acrobat Reader required). The full presentation handout and relevant links to resources are available here.
