Support for technology (computers, software, networks, internet, peripherals etc.) in government schools is provided in two forms: The Department Help Desks and the Regional Technology Support Unit.  In addition to this technical support and advice, there is a Regional ICT Consultant and two Learning Systems Consultants.

Support for technology (computers, software, networks, internet, peripherals etc.) in government schools is provided in two forms: The Department Help Desks and the Regional Technology Support Unit.  In addition to this technical support and advice, there is a Regional ICT Consultant and two Learning Systems Consultants.

The Department Help Desks:

The ITD Help Desk is a service of the DET Information Technology Directorate. They provide assistance to schools and staff on a wide range of computer-related issues, including:   

  • Requests for warranty service of rollout computers
  • Software and hardware problems with OASIS Admin, Finance and Library
  • Statewide Communications links
  • DET Web Services
  • School and Principal E-mail (WebMail)
  • School Annual Reports
  • Publishing Internet Websites to the school's webspace

The Regional Technology Support Unit Help Desk provides both remote and on-site technical support to schools and staff on specific school-related systems including:

  • Computer Technical support issues
  • Troubleshooting network problems
  • Server installation and user management
  • Software installation
  • Peripheral installation

The Technology Advisers for Sydney Region are:

  •  Paul Clark, Stuart Hasic, Bambos Meitani and Greg Sharkey

Technology Advisers are responsible for promoting and managing the Department's Technology For Learning Program (T4L) in the area's schools.  This includes the provision of:

  • Assistance to schools with technology planning

  • Advice on Networking requirements, design, procurement and setup

  • Advice on Server requirements, procurement and setup

  • Advice on the procurement and use of appropriate educational and administrative software and peripherals

  • Advice regarding school  websites

  • Advice on the effective use of rollout computers and associated resources

  • Specialist technology training courses for school staff

  • Support to school computer coordinators
